The Week Ahead - Jan 2, 2016

As I mentioned in yesterday's post, every Saturday of 2016 I intend on blogging about my daily "Mind, Body, and Soul Challenge." Since I already blogged yesterday, today's blog will simply consist of my progress today and my intentions for tomorrow.

Here were my accomplishments:

Mind: Today I read an old marketing textbook for an hour. While the subject was pretty rudimentary, It did help me solidify my belief that I want to stay in a marketing field. Marketing is such a fascinating subject, and I earnestly intend on rereading this book in its entirety.

Personal aside: Today I also mentally prepared myself for leaving my family tomorrow and going back to work on Monday. As I have told my family, my grandmother's death has not fully "hit me" yet, and I don't truly anticipate that it will until I get back into the swing of things at work. Although it was not exactly the most uplifting mental conversation to have, I am glad that I reminded myself of how discontented I am with my professional development. Nothing helps to relight a fire underneath your bottom quite like that...

Body: After essentially two weeks of inactivity (I did run a few days between early-morning hospital visits), I completed a 40-minute, ass-kicking yoga exercise. It was hard, I wanted to quit multiple times, but I didn't. It was a modest goal, but at least it was accomplished.

Spirit: Today I helped my parents out in a variety of ways:

  • I helped clean/vacuum their house
  • I did my mom's makeup
  • I washed her makeup brushes (pretty sure that has never been done)
  • I prepared food and cleaned the house for the company we expected tonight

Gratitude

Today, I am grateful that my mom and aunt have rekindled their relationship. My mom as been so lonely since her diagnosis, and it warms my heart that they are hanging out again on a regular basis. It is sad how tragedy is often the only thing that brings families back together, but in this instance, I am happy that my mom has her sister back. Hanging out with her tonight was fun and heartwarming.

The Week Ahead

Just thinking ahead, here is what I hope to accomplish this week [since I am flying home tomorrow (and hopefully seeing a movie tomorrow night) I want to get a jump-start on my goal-setting]:

    • Mind: Continue reading the marketing textbook on the plane and brainstorm future job opportunities.
    • Body: Eat 100% healthy today. No alcohol. I will most likely not be able to exercise tomorrow since I have my flight home, so tomorrow is a mini-detox.
